Killer Mike’s R.A.P. Music was one of the best throwback hip-hop albums of 2012. The straightforward vocal style and lyrical themes (plus the title, duh) gave the release the feel of a love letter to the rap genre itself.
Though I’ve never been a huge El-P fan, the man has an undeniable talent as a producer. While his production on R.A.P. Music felt like a canvas engineered to best showcase Killer Mike’s style, the sound he has created for Run The Jewels — credited as a true collaboration album — has a very different feel. Its bombastic, raw sound fits right in as a Fool’s Gold release. And shit, it’s even free to download.
